Synopsis
Being one MRT stop away from Orchard Road, the Newton Food Centre is popular with foreigners and locals alike. Most will go there for barbequed seafood, barbequed chicken wings and other hawker fare.

What we thought of it: Nice, relaxed ambience to have a meal in an outdoor setting. We like the common practice of ordering a variety of dishes to share amongst family or friends.

Review
Newton Food Centre is a well-known local food centre with many different stalls serving a wide variety of local fare. It is conveniently located near Orchard Road area, making it easy access after a day of shopping or sightseeing. There’s no better reprieve than to have a drink and a good meal at Newton Food Centre.
It's a great place to try the local barbequed seafood, local favourites such as hokkien fried prawn noodles, popiah (a wrap containing bean sprouts, lettuce, egg, prawn paste) and local dessert such as ching tng (dried longan soup with jelly bits, barley seeds).

The locals also enjoy coming here in the late evening just for a drink and supper of sambal (a type of chilli sauce) stingray, oyster fried egg (oysters fried with egg), barbequed chicken wings and satay (Malay-style barbequed meat on bamboo sticks).
The price of food here is comparable with most food centres around town, starting from $3 a dish. The barbequed seafood is more costly ranging from $6 to $20 a dish. The quality of the food is generally good.

Tips
Take time to decide on the type of food. The better the food, the more popular the stall is. Don’t be intimidated by any touting stall-holders – you can either turn them down politely or patronise their stalls if you think they have something you like. If they do become too overwhelming, note the stall they are from and you can report them to the Singapore Tourism Board.

Things to Bring
A hungry stomach and an adventurous mind to try new food.

Opening Times
Opening times: Open for lunch and dinner late into the night

Best time to go: Early evenings for dinner when it is cooler, more stalls open and livelier. It gets crowded and busy later in the evenings and very busy over weekends.
